Reveal

Reveal verb

To disclose or make known (something previously unknown or kept secret) in speech or writing; to divulge, declare publicly or openly.  Oxford English Dictionary Online definition.

I intend to try and reveal personal details of life that are often kept hidden. Revealing, as opposed to telling, brings with it a sense of the personal, perhaps even the unsavoury, and creates a special bond for those who recognise themselves in the revealed information. I feel a compulsion to reveal my situation to those around me, as a kind of honesty, without which I feel like I am hiding a shame, and cannot maintain real relationships. I hope that my work will also be open, revealing its meaning to the viewer. In this sense the revealed information will be available in text, as above in the definition, although I would hope that reveal would also apply to the non text information in my work.
